The statement, released after the announcement of Mr. Akeredolu as winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), quoted Mr. Tinubu as saying, "With regard to the governorship election in Ondo State, I extend congratulations to Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) on the outcome of the election and for his perseverance and persistence in seeking that office."

The party chieftain also congratulated the people of Ondo State for their peaceful conduct on election day and for returning to the progressive camp.
